Swim season is in full swing after practices started in early November. Since SHS doesn't have a pool, practices are held at Canyon High School in New Braunfels. The team is made up of eight swimmers.

“The thing that drove my interest for swim is it can really help me in other sports, as I am a multi-sport athlete,” senior Johnny Palomo said. “Also, I can help the Seguin swim team by attracting other athletes to join. Knowing when I can succeed by practicing hard motivates me and going through that preparation, the pain is worth it.”
The swim team practices five days a week, before or after school. During practice each member races against each other as a technique to become better, faster and stronger.
“I prepare before meets by listening to music,” junior Baylor Scott said. “I remain focused by tuning out everything else and thinking about whats important.”
Similar to track, swimmers compete in events that are divided into heats and lanes. The rules and regulations state that swimmers can’t false start, can only flip underwater, and can’t raise up out of the water before they touch the wall when they finish.
The swim season only lasts a few months, from November to January 26th. If swimmers qualify, they can advance to regionals and on, which is something swimmers like Palomo have done before. The next meet is January 12, at the Burnet YMCA at 12:00 p.m. Swimmers will be competing against Canyon, San Marcos, Wimberly, Alamo Heights and East Central for the top places.
